 Explanation of Terms & SUSE Features: X

X is what controls the interface between the display hardware and the graphical user interface you see on your screen. It manages the "windowing infrastructure". That means that it is the base for nearly everything you see on your screen when using a graphicl user interface.

XFree86 and X.org are the most common free implementations of this concept.
