Buffoonary at Novell

A Novell server got hacked. It looks like some employees were running a "gaming" site on some official Novell gear. When I first read "gaming", I was thinking "always bet on black" and spending some money on the ponies, but it looks like "gaming" is used in the joysticks-and-level-14-mage sense.

Anyway it sounds like this site was actually sanctioned by Novell. More fuel for the pissed of investors. Nat just got back from China and he's got to explain why his SuperTux Guild site has a Novell IP.

Brandon, the guy who broke the bad news to Novell, said the hacked boxes were likely used to scan "millions" of outside computers for SSH vulnerabilities. The Novell Spokesman said, "There was no major breach of security here,". Not laughing yet? Go back and read that last quote with a "there are no tanks in Baghdad" cadence. Ahhhh, you're laughing your ass off now aren't you? So, I'm thinking Mr. Barney's words are probably of little consolation to the poor bastards who have been getting sodomized in port 22 all week.
