Yahoo! Search API

Yahoo released a search API. It is similar to Google's API, but adds support for their image, local, news, and video search databases.

I used the Google API to make my link development tool, but I'd like to find a use for the Yahoo API that is not just for webmasters and incorporate it on the suseroot site. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

I also had the idea of making something to work with root-tail to display your Google and Yahoo SERPs on a Linux desktop. But this only came to me while I was actually trying to come up with some unusual desktop implementation of the Yahoo API; it's been my experience that this kind of backwards-thinking produces an outcome that only I find amusing.

I've been out of town for work and spread a little open source goodness by installing OpenOffice and Firefox on the PC at the facility I was visiting. I've been thinking about doing more of this "clandestine open sourcing". "Damian secretly replaced the old expensive software they were using with new f/oss, let's watch their reactions". On one of these visits all I have to do is change the default to OOo and Firefox, none of my coworkers know how to change it back, I'm gone before anyone notices the difference. The next step would be reformatting the hdd and installing Lindows with one of those XP-look-alike themes.
